How Do I Set Up a Times-the-Money (Quantity) Lot in BidWrangler?

To sell multiple identical units as a single lot at a per-unit price (a "times-the-money" sale), enter the number of units in the item's Quantity field under Bidding Configuration. BidWrangler multiplies the winning bid amount by that quantity to calculate the total price, so bidders are effectively bidding "per unit" even though they only enter one number. This is the standard way to sell things like a group of identical trees, a pallet of matching equipment, or any lot of interchangeable units without creating a separate listing for each one.

Use a quantity, or times-the-money, lot whenever you have multiple identical units that you want bidders to treat as one bid with one number, but where the final sale price should scale with how many units are included. An example might be a set of chairs sold as a single lot: instead of listing each chair separately, you list all of them as one item and let the Quantity field handle the math. This keeps the auction catalog cleaner and lets bidders think in per-unit terms without you having to build separate listings for every identical unit.

1. In the BidWrangler admin portal, select Items from the left menu and open the item you want to configure (or click Create to add a new one).

2. Under Bidding Configuration, enter the total number of units in the Quantity field. For example, if you are selling 4 chairs as one lot, enter 4.

3. Confirm the starting bid, reserve, or buy-it-now price is set as the intended per-unit price, since BidWrangler will multiply whatever the winning bid amount is by the Quantity you entered.

4. Click Save at the bottom of the screen.

The Quantity field only accepts whole numbers, so it works for countable units like personal property or equipment but is not suitable for fractional measurements like acres.

Bid Button Subtext is a separate field, also found under Bidding Configuration, that lets you add a short custom label directly on the bid button (for example, "PER ACRE" on a per-acre item). Bid Button Subtext is only available on quantity-of-1 items. Once an item's Quantity is set to anything other than 1, the subtext option is not usable on that item.

This mirrors a similar restriction on per-acre items, where BidWrangler will not let you use the Acres field and the Bid Button Subtext field at the same time. In both cases, the platform expects one mechanism, either the multiplier field or the subtext label, but not both.

Since Bid Button Subtext is not available once Quantity is set, put any per-unit detail bidders need directly in the item Description instead. For example, on a 4-chair lot, note "per chair" in the description so bidders understand the winning bid amount will be multiplied by 4. This keeps the per-unit context visible to bidders even though it cannot appear on the bid button itself.

Can I use bid button subtext on a quantity lot?
No. Bid Button Subtext only works on items with a Quantity of 1. If you set Quantity to any number greater than 1, such as 4 for a lot of 4 chairs, the subtext field is no longer usable on that item. Put the per-unit detail in the item description instead.
