5 BidWrangler Admin Portal Tips and Tricks You Might Not Know About
BidWrangler’s admin portal includes shortcuts that standard training and most help center articles do not cover. This article lists five of them: browser tricks, a faster save, a sort feature, and direct links to two admin screens. None of these tricks change how your data works. They only save clicks and time on screen.
Keep Your Filtered Item List After You Edit an Item
When you save an edited item in the admin portal, it takes you back to the full Items list. It does not return you to your previous search, filter, or sort view.
Hold Command (Mac) or Control (Windows) and click the item to open it in a new tab.
Edit the item in the new tab.
Click Save.
Close the tab with Command+W (Mac) or Control+W (Windows).
Your original Items list stays open in the first tab, with your search, filter, and sort settings in place.
Save a Field Without Scrolling to the Bottom of the Page
Many fields in the admin portal accept the Enter key as a save shortcut. This works in single-line text fields that do not allow line breaks and some number fields. It does not work in fields that accept multiple lines, such as description boxes, because Enter creates a new line there instead.
Sort Any List or Report by Clicking a Column Header
You can sort many tables and reports in the admin portal by column. Click a column header once to sort in ascending order, and click it again to sort in descending order. This works on reports such as the Backup Bidder Report and on many other list views in the portal.
Open the Live Clerking Panel Directly by Auction ID
Use this shortcut after an online auction ends, when you need to record a sale for an item that did not sell online. One example is a withdrawn lot sold later to a bulk buyer.
You can open the Live Clerking Panel for a specific auction without the normal path through View Auction and the menu. Add ui/live_clerk/ followed by the auction ID to the end of your bidding platform’s website address. For example, https://companyname.bidwrangler.com/ui/live_clerk/159249 opens the Live Clerking Panel for auction 159249.
WARNING: Do not use this shortcut if your online and live buyer’s premium rates are different. The Live Clerking Panel records every sale as a live bid. BidWrangler then applies the live buyer’s premium rate, even to items from an online auction.
Open the BW Catalog App from a Desktop Browser
The BW Catalog App is built for a phone or tablet, but it also runs in a desktop web browser. Add /catalog to the end of your bidding platform’s website address to open it. For example, companyname.bidwrangler.com/catalog opens the desktop version.
The short address/CNAME bid.companyname.com does not work for the desktop browser version. Use your full bidding platform address instead. For the full setup guide, see How Do I Use the BW Catalog App?
FAQ
Will I lose my filtered item list if I edit an item in the admin portal?
You will not lose your filtered list if you open the item in a new tab first. Hold Command or Control and click the item to open the new tab. Edit and save the item there, then close the tab. Your original Items list stays open in the first tab, with your filters in place.
Does the Enter key save every field in the admin portal?
The Enter key saves single-line text fields and number fields. It does not work in fields that accept multiple lines, such as description boxes. In those fields, Enter creates a new line and does not save the field.
Does clicking a column header sort every list in BidWrangler?
You can sort by column header on many tables and reports in the admin portal, such as the Backup Bidder Report. Click a header once to sort in ascending order, and click it again for descending order.
What happens to the buyer's premium if I clerk an item through the Live Clerking Panel URL?
BidWrangler applies the live buyer’s premium rate, because the Live Clerking Panel records every sale as a live bid. This applies even when the auction itself was an online auction. Check your live and online buyer’s premium rates before you use this shortcut.
Can I use the BW Catalog App without downloading it?
Yes. Add /catalog to the end of your full bidding platform website address to open the app in a desktop browser. The short address bid.companyname.com does not work for this. Use your full bidding platform address instead.
Does the new-tab trick work in any web browser?
Yes. Command-click or Control-click to open a link in a new tab is a standard browser shortcut. It works the same way in the BidWrangler admin portal as it does on most websites.
