How do I add a Hyperlink?
Adding a Hyperlink
In this example, we'll add a link to the Auction Description.
Type the text you wish to make a link into the Auction Description box. It's a good idea to format the text here so that it appearsĀ more obviously a link to users.
The general convention is to make the text blue and underlined, but you can format it however you like.
Next, add a hyperlink by highlighting the desired text and clicking the link button, which looks like a link of chain:
This will open the following pop-up window:
To add the link, simply copy the URL from the website, video, document, etc. and paste it into the URL box. Copy and paste the whole text into the box, and the 'Protocol' box will update automatically.
Once done, click OK.
Save your Auction settings, and your hyperlink is ready.
Setting a Hyperlink to open in a new window
It's generally best practice to have the link open in a new window in the user's browser. That way, they won't be taken away from your auction or website, or have their registration process interrupted.
To set that up, follow the steps above, but when you get to the pop-up window, add the link in the URL and then click the 'Target' tab at the top.
From this tab, choose 'New Window' in the target drop-down, then click ok:
Removing a hyperlink
To remove a hyperlink, set your cursor anywhere in the link text, then click the 'Unlink' button.
Linking to a Document from your auction
If you have a document attached to an item in your auction, and you want that to be accessible via a link in your auction description, or terms and conditions, you can do so with the following steps:
First, you need to add a document to an item in your auction. Follow the guide here to see how to do that.
When you have added a document, a URL will be created. Return to the document in the item, and right click on the URL to copy it. You can then paste this into the URL field when creating a hyperlink
