How do I create an item in BidWrangler?

Auctions require at least one item/lot associated with it to successfully publish an auction in the BidWrangler platform. Begin by first creating an auction for items to be associated with by referring to the following document - How do I create an auction in BidWrangler?

IF YOU ARE USING WAVEBID TO EXPORT AUCTIONS INTO BIDWRANGLER, REFER TO THIS DOCUMENT  -

How do I add and export lots from Wavebid?

To create an item first navigate to the BidWrangler admin portal, and select items from the left menu -

Next, click create at the top menu bar -

Displayed will be all fields needed to create an item/lot -

REQUIRED FIELDS

  • "Auction" - This is a required field.  This dropdown selects the auction that this item will be associated with.  To search for an auction, input text into the field, and the specific auction will appear in the dropdown.

RECOMMENDED FIELDS

  • "Name" - This is a recommended field.  This is the name associated with the item/lot that will be displayed to bidders in the auction.
  • "Description" - This is a recommended field.  This is the primary item description for the item.  This will be displayed to bidders in the auction.  HTML can be input into this field, as well as hyperlinks to other web pages.
  • "Images" - This is a recommended field.  This will upload an image for this item.  Item images can also be uploaded through the bulk uploader.  For uploading many images quickly through bulk image upload, refer to this document - How do I bulk upload images for an item in BidWrangler?

SUGGESTED FIELDS

  • "Main category" - This assigns a primary category for this item in the auction.  This helps bidders search for a specific set of items within an auction(Example - Main Category - "Cars").
  • "Sub category" -  This assigns a sub-category for this item within the auction.  This helps bidders search for a specific set of items within an auction(Example - Main Category - "Cars", Sub Category - "Honda").
  • "Item Details URL" - This provides an external URL link for more information on the auction item in BidWrangler websites.
  • "Location" - This field when entered will provide a mapped location of the physical address of the item in Google Maps.  This is typically used for real estate items.
  • "Featured Item" - This will make this item the featured item in the auction, and use this item's first picture as one of the primary images for the auction.  Up to 5 items can be used as a "Featured Item", and the image slider will combine the first image from these 5 items to display in the apps auction view.
  • "Auction Position" - This will adjust the item's lot position in the auction.
  • "Lot Identifier" - This field will add a lot identifier to the item in the auction.
  • "Starting bid" - This will be the starting bid generated for the item in the auction.  In a live auction, this amount will generate as the asking price when bidding is enabled.
  • "Reserve price" - This is the reserve(minimum) price for the item.  If an item closes without having met the reserve, it will show as "NO SALE" by default, or will use a custom label configured in your BidWrangler company settings.
  • "Buy-it-now Price" - This field sets and displays a price at which bidders are able to purchase an item directly.  If a bidder clicks "BUY IT NOW" they will be the high bidder, and no further bids will be taken.  The bidder will see the item as "PURCHASED" when reviewing "YOUR ITEMS".
  • "Quantity" - This is the number of items included within this lot.  This is used for the "Times the Money" feature, enabling a multi-item lot to calculate a total cost for the total of items sold.  For example, someone bidding on this lot/item at $5, with a quantity of 10, would have a total bid amount of $50. (Bid x Quantity = Total Bid).
  • "Enable Offers?" (DEPRECATED) - This enables bidders to email an offer on an item.  All company admins will be sent an email with the offer.  An admin will need to manually mark an item as "SOLD" within the BidWrangler admin portal or the Power Clerk screen to accept this offer.  For more on this setting, refer to this document - How do I enable and accept offers?

TIMED AUCTIONS

  • "Auto-extend by minutes" - This will override the auto-extend increment set with company defaults, or for the auction.  An auto-extend increment(also known as a"soft-close" or "anti-sniping protection") will reset an auction to this number of minutes when a bid is placed at the end of an auction.  For example, if this increment is set to 5:00 minutes, and a bid is placed with 00:37 seconds left, the time will reset to 5:00 minutes.
  • "Auto-extend group" - This associates an item to an auto-extend grouping, represented by a letter character(EXAMPLE - group 'A').  When an item is given an identifier, it will associate this item with all other items associated with that same character.  This triggers any bid to an item within the group to auto-extend the countdown time for all items in the group.
  • "Manual Close" - This will require a clerk to manually close an item from a "CLOSING" state when the item's time expires within an auction.  Auctioneers may wish to contact a bidder before finalizing them as a high bidder for an auction.  NOTE: Failure to manually close an item will not allow the item to sell, and the auction will not successfully complete in the platform, and be left in a "PENDING" state.  An item must be completed manually by the admin/clerk once an auction is closed.

For more information on auto-extending by grouping, refer to this document -  How do I set a group of items to auto-extend together?

LISTINGS

  • "Listing?" - This is required and will mark the item as a listing within the app and website.
  • "Listing Published" - This will publish the listing to the app and website. Leave unset while you are setting this listing up.
  • "Listing complete" - This will un-publish the listing from the app and website.
  • "Listing Button Label" - This field determines the text that will display on the button for the item listing.  Commonly, text such as "Call Now!" would link in the field below to a phone number, and text such as "Click Here" would link to an outside webpage/URL.
  • "Listing URL" - This field links the "Listing Button Label" field to an outside link.  Typically, this would just be a website address.  However, a URL can be created that will dial a phone number(tel:5551234567) or send a text message(sms:5551234567).  If it is typical that the majority of bidders would be using mobile devices for this listing, exploring these other advanced URLs may be useful.
  • "Listing Price" - If provided this price will be used to sort listing.
  • "Sort Index" - Will determine the position of the listing in the list.

When all required/optional fields are complete, click "Save" at the bottom of the screen -

The item will now be created and added to the auction.  Repeat these steps to add another item to the auction.
