Managing the Images in an Auction Carousel

Edited

By default, the first images of the first five lots in an auction are automatically selected as the images in the auction carousel. This is assuming no items are marked as Featured and no photos have been uploaded to the Auction Container. If the lot numbers are re-ordered, the carousel will reflect the change, though this may take a little time to update publicly.

There are two methods for controlling which images appear in the image carousel on your auction's public-facing page: the Featured Items method and the Auction Container method. While both are available, the Auction Container method is often preferred for its simplicity and reliability when it comes to organizing more than 5 images and controlling image display order.

Method 1: Auction Container (Preferred)

This method allows you to manually upload up to 10 images to the auction carousel and place them in the exact order you'd like them displayed.

How to Use:

  1. Navigate to your company’s Admin Portal.

  2. Click Auctions from the left-hand menu under the Auctions section.

  1. Select the relevant auction.

  2. Scroll down and click the orange "Add Images" button.

  3. Either:

    • Drag and drop your images into the upload space, or

    • Click the space to open your file browser and select the images (tap to select for mobile or iPad users).

Reordering Images:

Once your images are uploaded:

  1. Follow steps 1–3 above to open the auction.

  2. Scroll down to the image preview area.

  3. Drag and drop the images into the desired order. (Left to right = first to last in the public carousel).

  4. Click Save. You may have to refresh the browser to reflect the changes.

This method overrides any Featured Items settings. If fewer than 5 images are uploaded here, the system will fill in remaining slots (up to 5 total) using any marked Featured Items.

Method 2: Featured Items

If you mark items as Featured, the first photo of each Featured Item will appear in the auction carousel. This method is limited to 5 items. If more than 5 items are marked as featured, unexpected behavior may occur—such as the system randomly selecting images from other lots.

How to Mark Items as Featured (Two Methods)

Option 1: From the Item’s Page

  1. Navigate to your company’s admin portal.

  2. Click Items under the Auctions section.

  3. Locate and click the desired item.

  4. Scroll down to the Suggested Fields section.

  5. Check the box labeled Featured Item.

Option 2: From the Items List View

  1. Navigate to your company’s admin portal.

  2. Click Items under the Auctions section.

  3. Filter by the relevant auction.

  4. Locate the Featured? column.

  5. Check the boxes for the items you'd like to feature.

Notes:

  • The order of the images in the carousel is determined by the lot number of each Featured Item. For example, if Lots 3, 5, and 14 are marked as featured, their first images will appear in that order.

  • This method is not ideal if you need precise control over image order or want to feature more than five images.

  • If you're having trouble with display order, switch to the Auction Container method instead.

Side Note: Adding YouTube Videos

YouTube videos added to item listings do not display in the auction image carousel, only the item's image carousel. For more information on adding videos to items, see this guide: How to Add YouTube Videos
