What Closing Speed should I use for my Auction?

Edited

For Timed (Online Only) Auctions, it's important to make sure that your auction doesn't close too quickly or slowly. Choosing the right closing speed can make all the difference to a successful auction - too quick could mean they miss out on items they were interested in, too slow can cause bidders to become disengaged.

Getting the right balance between the number of lots closing at one time, and the speed at which they close and extend will depend largely on the number of items you have in your catalog.

To help you decide, follow the link to open our Closing Speed Calculator.

You can edit the variables in the while fields:

  • Set the scheduled end time for when your auction will begin to close

  • Enter the total number of items in your catalog

  • Enter a value for Closing Speed - Lots

  • Enter a value for Closing Speed

The green box will display the minimum time it will take for the auction to close - but note that this does not take auto-extend into consideration.

Try different combinations of closing speed - lots, and closing speed to estimate your auction's end time.

If you're trying to get a large auction to close more quickly, it may also be worth checking out Variable Closing Speeds so that you can set different speeds for different parts of your auction.
