Auction Saving Errors
When making changes to an auction, it's common to explore different configuration options such as Location, Variable Closing Speed Ranges, Bid Schedule, and Coordinator's Address. However, doing so can sometimes result in confusing error messages when attempting to save the auction. This article will walk you through why these errors happen and how to resolve them.
Why You’re Seeing Errors When Saving
When users click on the orange "+Create..." button next to certain optional settings, the system generates a set of fields as a placeholder. These placeholders are designed to be filled out if you intend to use that feature.
However, if you open a placeholder and do not complete the required fields, the system still expects those fields to be valid when saving the auction. Even if you collapse the field set using the dropdown toggle (which may appear to hide or remove the fields), the system retains them and treats them as active.
This results in save errors such as:
"Scheduled bid increments bid increment is not a number"
"Variable closing speed ranges range start is not a number"
"Street Address can't be blank"
"City is too short (minimum is 3 characters)"
"Coord location zip can't be blank"
These errors all stem from unfilled but still-active placeholders.
How to Fix the Issue
If you’ve clicked a "+Create..." button but decide not to use that option:
Do not simply collapse the section using the dropdown toggle. This does not remove it.
Hover over the field area to reveal a red trash can icon on the top left of the section.
Click the red trash can to delete the placeholder entirely.
Once you’ve removed any unused placeholder sections, you should be able to save the auction without errors.
Best Practices
Only click "+Create..." for optional sections you plan to actively use.
If you're just exploring, be sure to delete any unused fields before saving.
Double-check for hidden (collapsed) sections that may still contain incomplete required fields.
Also, please note that using emojis in either the Description or the Simple description fields will result in the auction not saving as well.
